National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
Yuma, Arizona.- The Regional Center for Border Health, Inc./San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. is celebrating the 2016 National Nutrition Month during March by promoting good eating habits at its two locations in San Luis and in Somerton.
Ms. Amanda Aguirre, President and CEO of RCBH, announced that Family Care Coordinators will work on the promotion of a good nutrition all the month by providing children with healthy snacks while educating parents on how to get healthy food without spending too much money.
“We are glad to have our dedicated staff assisting the families and their children of the community while we celebrate National Nutrition Month,” said Ms. Aguirre, and added “this is a great opportunity to spread the word on how we can stay healthy by getting the best of our local fresh produce and vegetables.”
During March Family Care Coordinators will be at the lobbies at each clinic and also during the Farmer’s Market on Wheels providing healthy snacks, money saving recipes and small food samples to show the families how can they eat delicious food and stay healthy.
Also on March 16, 2016 RCBH/San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. will host the National Nutrition Month Healthy Fair from 9:00AM to 1:00 PM in both Somerton and San Luis locations where there will be free screenings on cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and hemoglobin as well as free samples of healthy food and raffles.
National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
The theme for 2016 is "Savor the Flavor of Eating Right," which encourages everyone to take time to enjoy food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to our lives.
Initiated in March 1973 as a week-long event, "National Nutrition Week" became a month-long observance in 1980 in response to growing public interest in nutrition.
