“Nuestros Niños” 2019 Summer Youth Program empowers 15 high school students of Yuma County

Yuma, AZ – (July 16, 2019) .- Fifteen high school students from all over Yuma County were empowered to get more involved in their community and to work as a team during the 2019 “Nuestros Niños” Summer Youth Program, sponsored by the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc./San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc.

According to Mr. Gustavo Alvarez, Program Coordinator with RCBH, the six-week program started on June 6 and ended up last week.

During the ceremony that took place at the RCBH Headquarters in Somerton, Arizona, Mr. Alvarez said students participated in several activities such as presentations from federal law enforcement officers, health field and community fields professionals. Also, they involved in to volunteer activities such as the Yuma Community Food Bank and a clean-up of a local family home.

Jonathan Padilla, one of the participants, expressed; “I want to thank all the Family Care Coordinators and all those in this organization for giving us the opportunity to learn how we can be of help to the community; at the beginning we started hanging out by groups and now we all consider ourselves as a family, we really learned how to work as a team, and that is why I am so grateful with the program leaders.”

The program also included their participation at the "Nuestros Niños/Nuestra Comunidad" Healthcare Community Census, a door-to-door community-based census designated to identify and collect information from underserved/disadvantaged families; and the 21st “Nuestros Niños” Health Fair held at both San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. locations in San Luis and Somerton.

A certificate of participation was presented by Mr. Alvarez and the Family Care Coordinators or Promotoras de Salud who made the program possible to Irlanda Aragon, Alexia Arce, Daniela Ulloa, Jonathan Padilla, Ashley Diaz, Monique Wise Reyes, Yulissa Sanchez, Adriana Frost, Brianda Jimenez, Jovanni Solorzano, Omar Sanchez, Suzanne Cuevas, Osmar Valenzuela, Ashley Marin, and Alvaro Hernandez.

The Regional Center for Border Health, Inc./San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. sponsors the program since 1998.
