Amanda Aguirre, M.A., R.D.
CEO / President

Since 1991 Amanda Aguirre, M.A., R.D. has been the CEO/President of the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. a non-profit organization. She also serves as CEO/President for the San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. a subsidiary non-profit Federal Rural Health Clinic of the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. since 2004. Amanda has been involved for more than 25 years in public health education and administration with a strong emphasis in U.S.-Mexico border health issues.

Ms. Aguirre holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Sonora in Hermosillo, Sonora. In 1981 received her Master Degree from the California State University in Los Angeles, California in Nutrition, with focus on feeding problems of children with developmental disabilities. Most recently, Ms. Aguirre is the co-founder of the “Nuestros Niños” Foundation, a private foundation dedicated to improve the quality of life and meet the needs of children and their families along the U.S.-Mexico border.

On November 7, 2006, Ms. Aguirre was elected to the Arizona State Senate for District #24, 48th Arizona State Legislature.

On November 2 nd , 2004 Ms. Amanda Aguirre became elected to the Arizona House of Representatives for District #24, 47 th Arizona State Legislature. Ms. Aguirre became the first Hispanic and female representing District #24 (Yuma and La Paz Counties) in the State House of Representatives on February 2003, when Yuma County Board of Supervisors appointed her to the 46 th Arizona State Legislature.

-In 2007, Senate President Bee appointed Ms. Aguirre to serve as a member of the Arizona Homeland Security Coordinating Council.
-Member of the Health Committee of the National Conference of State Legislature for the 2007-2008 biennium.
-Member of the Agriculture, Environment and Energy Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures for the 2007-2008 biennium.
-In February 13, 2007, Governor Janet Napolitano appointed Ms. Aguirre member of the Arizona-Mexico Commission.

-In January 23, 2006 Ms. Aguirre became a member of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators and arm of the National Caucus of State Legislature.
-In October 2005 Ms. Aguirre became a member of the Arizona Center for Public Health Preparedness (AzCPHP) Advisory Committee.
-In August 2005, Ms. Aguirre was reappointed by Governor Janet Napolitano to the Arizona Governor's Homeland Security Coordinating Council.
-In July 2005 Ms. Aguirre completed a Training Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA.
-In May 2004, Governor Janet Napolitano appointed Ms. Aguirre member of the Arizona State Citizen Corps Council.
-In February 2003 Ms. Aguirre became a member of the Good Neighbor Environment Board an Advisory Board to the United States Congress and President Bush on environmental issues.
-From 2003 to 2006, Ms Aguire served as a member of the Arizona Governor's Homeland Security Council (being the only State Legislator in such council) appointed by Governor Janet Napolitano.
-In January 2000-2003 Ms. Aguirre served as member of the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission appointed by President Clinton.
-Since 1999 Ms. Aguirre has served in the Governor's Commission on the Health Status of Women and Their Families.
-In December 2002 Ms. Aguirre received the “ Border Health Hero” Award by Dr. Alfonso Ruiz, Executive Director, Office of Pan American Health Organization.
-2001 recipients of the “ATHENA” Award given by the Athena Foundation to the women who have displayed excellence in leadership and community services in Yuma County sponsored by the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce.
-In March 2000 Amanda received the OHTLI Award by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the highest distinguished award given by the Country of Mexico to individuals living in a foreign country that have demonstrated a commitment to serve communities and families of Mexican origin.
